Why? The name Seventh Fire was chosen because a deep connection was made with the essence of an Anishinaabe prophecy that partly speaks to the Shift that we are all now experiencing. Recent conversations served to deepen our understanding of the sacred nature of the prophecy to the Anishinaabe people. We now see that the use of the name by a group outside of the culture is inappropriate -- even though we had good heart and pure intention. For this, we are deeply sorry for any pain our actions may have caused. We do not wish the name of our organization to create further separation – when our intent is to realize one-ness.
We have another reason for this change. We have been finding, as we create our identity as an organization, that we are a very future-oriented group, committed to finding new ways of Being. These new ways are not bound to, or favor, any particular path, culture, or tradition. We would like to find a new name that truly reflects our vision, mission and actions in the world.
When? In January we will formulate a name-transition and communication plan and put it into action. The official name change should be complete by March. In practice, we will use the new name as soon as it is chosen and refrain from any marketing with the old name, to the extent that we have control.
